Ordnance Survey 1:25 000 (4cm to 1km or 2½ to 1 mile) scale maps
This is the authoritative map for the area. Ideal for all purposes including recreational uses such as hill-walking and camping. All transport links are shown, from motorways down to untarred minor ones and footpaths, ferry-routes and bus-stations. All buildings are shown. Natural features are shown with contour lines at 10 metre intervals and shading to denote sets of heights above sea-level, with green for most of the lowland and browns for the higher areas. All rivers, lakes, woods, cliffs and shore-line features such as shingle and mud or sand are shown. The tourist symbols used include ones for viewpoint, parking, caravan site and information centres etc. Other symbols denote pubs, toilets, telephone access points etc. The whole map is overlain with a light-blue Irish Grid System with intervals at one kilometre. Along the edge are longitude and latitude ticks at five minute intervals. Along the side are colour photographs and useful information boxes linked to numbers on the maps.
